Pomology |
Basic information |
The discipline of pomology was founded in 1934. The older generation of scientists, such as Gengmin Wu and Wencai Zhang, laid a solid foundation for the development of the discipline. It was approved as a master’s degree in 1981, a doctor’s degree in 1986, a key discipline in Shaanxi Province in 1999, a national key discipline in 2007, and a national first-class undergraduate specialty construction point in 2019. There are more than 5000 graduates who have been sent to society. Since the beginning, this discipline has been based on the research and genetic improvement of horticultural plant resources in Northwest China, which is facing the frontier of the discipline and the needs of the country, adhering to the close combination of production, teaching, and research. The discipline is also carrying out the collection, research, and creation of fruit tree germplasm resources and serving the high-quality and efficient cultivation of fruit trees in the Loess Plateau as the key scientific research and achievement transformation. Including fruit tree breeding and biotechnology; fruit tree physiology and ecology; postharvest physiology of horticultural products; and storage and preservation of fruits. There are 2 national and 8 provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms, and they have undertaken 300 projects in the past 5 years, with funding of more than CNY 200 million, and won 6 national and provincial awards. At present, it has obvious advantages in the research fields of fruit tree germplasm innovation and apple and grape adversity biology. |

Vegetable Science |
Basic information |
Vegetable Science has a long history of talent accumulation and fruitful achievements and is well-known both inside and outside the province. Relying on the department of vegetable science, college of horticulture, Northwest A&F University, as well as the state key laboratory of crop stress biology in arid areas, Shanxi vegetable engineering technology research center, and other laboratories and research centers, we have established some research teams such as vegetable biotechnology and germplasm resources innovation team, vegetable physiology and biotechnology research team, cruciferous vegetable crop genetic improvement and biotechnology innovation team, melon crop germplasm resources and genetic breeding research team, and tomato biotechnology and genetic improvement research team. The team members are engaged in a series of scientific research and teaching activities, such as vegetable plant genetics and breeding and molecular improvement, metabolic physiology and ecology, accumulation and extraction of vegetable nutrients, and deep processing and utilization. |
Core courses |

Tea Science |
Basic information |
Tea Science is a subject to study the law of tea growth and development, tea processing technology and quality formation mechanism, tea nutrition and health function, tea marketing and management, tea culture, and tea art. The discipline of Tea Science in Northwest A&F University and technology is a key discipline in Shaanxi Province. It was approved to have the right to grant master's and doctoral degrees in 2000. It began to officially recruit master's students in 2004 and doctoral students in 2008. After more than ten years of development, the subject of tea has formed a teaching team with a reasonable age structure, scientific learning source structure, and strong technical force. There are 14 fixed full-time teachers, including 2 professors, 8 associate professors, 2 doctoral supervisors, and 8 master supervisors. There are 11 people with doctoral degrees and 6 people with overseas research experiences; 1 head of the comprehensive test station of the national tea industry technology system; 1 chief expert; and three post experts of the provincial tea industry technology system. In addition, there are four industry graduate supervisorss. |

Facilities Horticulture |
Basic information |
Facilities Horticulture at Northwest A&F University is a second-level discipline under the first-level discipline of horticulture. It was granted the right to grant a doctorate degree in 2006. This subject to garden crop production as the core, agricultural engineering and environmental control for the purpose of biotechnology application, facing the subject frontier and national demand, carrying out scientific research tasks such as facility structure and new energy utilization, facility environmental regulation, and facility horticultural crop physiology and ecology. Through 15 years of construction, the discipline has formed a talent training mode that guides the construction of facilities nationwide. It has been awarded the pilot project of the comprehensive reform of the Ministry of Education and the first-class construction professional and world-class construction professional points in Shaanxi. It was selected as the national first-class undergraduate specialty construction point in 2020. |
